Affirmations

Many people use affirmations to manifest positive change in their life.  Typically, a person finds or makes up an affirmation reflecting how they wish their life to be, i.e. I attract only loving positive relationships. They say this affirmation, think this affirmation, surround themselves with reminders of this affirmation and hope that life soon shows up for them in the way the affirmation describes it.
However, I often hear, “I do affirmations every day!  They’re not working!”  When affirmations are not working, we examine the tail-enders that are attached to the affirmation.  Tail-enders are the self-talk that is happening underneath all this positive action.  If deep down you are believing something else, like with the affirmation above, if there is a sarcastic inner voice saying “Ya right, like this time it’s going to be any different, I always attract people that take advantage of me”, then that inner voice is speaking the tail-ender. The tail-ender is the actual affirmation that you are putting out to the world.
I often encourage clients to listen carefully to the self-talk that is going on with any affirmations they use.  EFT is very effective at taking the strength out of the tail-enders and giving your affirmations more oomph!

New Program!
Personally Powerful Affirmations for Positive Transformation!
-Creating affirmations that work for you!

_ In this program of three 90-minute sessions we work together to help you make large strides towards a major life goal.  We first take a good look at your goal and through a series of exercises, we identify the aspects, circumstances, beliefs, etc. that are in the way of this goal.  We then use EFT to disarm as many of these as we can.  We follow this with a creative process where you design effective affirmations for this goal that are believable to the inner you and strengthen them with images and visualizations.  We end up polishing them for emotional believability with testing and EFT. You will receive guidelines to take home for all the exercises we do so that at the end of the program you are free to go on to repeat this process on your own for future goals.

_A great way to bring in the New Year or anytime you are ready for a positive change!

Ideally we will schedule the sessions two weeks apart (sometimes life requires us to be flexible with this) and the program works best if you are willing to do some homework between sessions.

This program can be done one-on-one or bring a partner!

_ If you are choosing to do this program with a partner, here are some guidelines.  These are not carved in stone but meant as helpful suggestions.
  • It is probably best if the partner is not someone with whom you have a significant emotional history such as a life partner, parent, child or sibling. Also a friend that you have had a turbulent history with is most likely not the ideal choice either.
When identifying the aspects that are in the way of your goal, many people are surprised to find they end up in stories of        the past.  Some of these significant people could have played a role in these stories and the session could turn into a                relationship coaching session instead.
  • The ideal partner to bring to this program is someone who you feel will listen to you, be non-judgmental, respect your privacy and trust to keep what is discussed confidential. You should also be that kind of partner for them. It is not necessary that you and your affirmation partner do homework together between each session, but if you can it will really strengthen the work.
